Your Kick Drum Micing Techniques!
Has anyone ever tried putting a heavy weight inside a kick drum (on a pillow) before? I was assisting on a session where a very reputable engineer/producer did this. He said the weight lowers the resonance of the drum and essentially makes the kick sound more tight. The weight also acted as a flat surface to place a Beta 91 inside of the kick.

Micing A Heavy Metal Drum Kit
This isn't so much a question, as an example of how I recently mic'ed a metal drum kit for a session.
All I was recording was the kit (minus a few scratch tracks), so my resources were plentiful.
Also, I am not mixing this project - my purpose was only to provide enough quality drum tracks for the mix engineer to work with.

Piano Micing
Does anyone have any ideas on how to mic a steinway upright piano and make it sound full and not too muddy?
Right now all my recordings sound either tacky or very unbalanced or both.

Needing some Micing suggestions
Hello - I am a newbie to the forum. Not to playing music.
I am a drummer and am trying to find the right mics for my style.
I play in a Celtic group. Fiddle, Piano, Drums, and sometimes vocals.

Piano Micing - Need Some Advice.
Hey. I was wondering if anyone has any good ideas as to how to mic an upright piano and get a decent sound. I have a steinway upright that I can't manage to get a nice sound out of.
Any Ideas will be appreciate.

Micing an orchestra
Hi all.
I will be recording a symphony orchestra on saturday: its not the first time I have mic'ed this particular orchestra, but on previous occasions my goal was to amplify them for an outdoor concert... this will be my first time recording a full orchestra in a hall.

Micing Saxophone for Ska/Jazz/Reggae
I recently had a ska-blend band in to do rhythm tracking, and will be overdubbing horns next week.
For the 'bone, I'm pretty much settled on using my Fathead.
The other horn is a sax... which has been a bit of a bugaboo for me.
I'll begin by echoing some thoughts I found while searching this subject.

Micing Acoustic
I'm looking to mic a jumbo body acoustic guitar. My initial thought was to use a large diaphragm condenser near the sound hole and put a dynamic on the fingerboard.
