Free Multitracks For Mixing Practice!

I recently noticed that there's a shortage of freely downloadable multitrack projects on the net for people to use for mixing practice. Yes, I’ve seen the Nine Inch Nails multitracks, the Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix files, the Real World downloads, and various other well-publicised sources of multitrack projects, but I’ve noticed that the files usually suffer from one of three problems:

mixing vocals

i was wondering how do engineers get that "in front of your face" sound on vocalists. i am currently mixing down a friend of mine that did a rap on one of my beats. i compressed his track a bit, then sent it to two aux tracks to one panned left and one panned right and slightly lowered the level. any other tips or advice you can give me please!

Mixing Music

In terms of mixing rap vocals, I am wondering if I could possibly do this myself once I get better at it, or if it is much better to just pay to have it done. Some guy at a local studio said he'd do it for $400 per song and there is no way I'm doing that.

Can Someone Recommend (Inexpensive) Mixing Speakers?

I'm currently using a couple of tiny and cheap desktop speakers to mix and I recognize I'll need something with power to pick up on subtleties in the sound, so if anyone could recommend something in the $100-200 range or just laugh at me because you can't get anything worthwhile at that price I'd appreciate it, thanks.
