Anyone using this mic? Do you like it? Does it compare at all to the SM81 or is it just a "budget" condenser?

I'm really trying to research my next vocal mic, and the ksm44 was suggested here, but I'd like a few more impressions before I make the purchase.

I'M IN THE MARKET FOR A GOOD DYNAMic MIC. RENTING THE UM5, USED THE 58 A LOT. ANYONE ELSE HAVE AN OPINION, THEN I'LL POST MINE!

I'm thinking about trying this mic with my USBpre and an ibook running PT free for live stereo recording. I'd also like to check it out as an overhead in the studio.

Anyone here using this mic ? I'd appreciate any feedback.

Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" was recorded by Bruce Sweiden through a Massenburg console and a Shure SM7 mic. Bruce said he wanted the sound of a dynamic mic specifically, and not a large condensor(Mix Mag 1997). This was a number one song, and was the Hottest! thing when I was in 3rd grade. To all my fellow gear junkies...when in doubt use your ears and experiment, not your wallet.

So I'm looking to buy a good vocal mic with switchable patterns for use as overheads, room mic, and experimentation. I live in NYC and don't know of a dealer that could supply all three. I suppose, from what I've heard, that the 414B-ULS isn't worth the money though I did like the one I used last year. Can anyone either recommend a dealer in the area or give advice on any of these mics?

I purchased it among other things at a studio sale years ago and forgot about having it. I've never heard anyone talk about using one so I'm guessing its probably junk?

Anyone got any suggestions.
